‘Hazard is in a vicious cycle’ – Belgium’s team doctor on Hazard’s recent injury

Eden Hazard moved from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2019 to complete his dream move. However, things haven’t panned out as well as both parties would have liked.

Eden Hazard has suffered 10 injuries in his 1 and a half year spell at Real Madrid. On Monday, Madrid confirmed that Hazard will be sidelined due to a quadriceps issue. This will be his fifth absence through injury or illness this season.

Hazard is expected to miss 3 to 4 weeks of action, adding to Real Madrid’s recent injury woes. Hazard has scored just 4 goals for the Los Blancos in his 35 appearances overall, a number highly underwhelming from a £80 million ($109m) forward.

The Belgium national team doctor has not minced his words and faulted Madrid’s medical team for Hazard’s injury troubles at the Bernabeu. Kristof Sas, the Belgian doctor has admitted his concerns regarding Hazard’s longevity keeping in mind the Euro 2021 in the summer.

“We are awaiting the details and knowing more, but it is clear that it is worrisome,” Sas told Nieuwsblad.

“The injuries at this stage of the season are not worrisome for the Euros, it is even a rest period. But with Eden it is different.

“It’s another relapse, a chronic situation that always goes wrong in the end. First the ankle, then the muscle injuries. It’s all very unpleasant.”

The Belgian doctor added: “Eden is in a vicious circle and it’s not easy to get out of it. It’s disturbing what happens with his musculature.

Eden Hazard will miss madrid’s next 3 La Liga matches against Huesca, Getafe and Valencia. Madrid will hope to have him back against Atalanta for their Champions league first round fixture.
