“He didn’t have the same opportunities,” Lewis Hamilton opines on legacy of Ayrton Senna, whilst downplaying GOAT race
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton the Mercedes Formula One driver during a live event has recently given his opinion on the former three-time Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna.
Ayrton Senna was a Brazilian racing driver who won the F1 championship in 1988, 1990, and 1991. During his career, he won a total of 41 Grand Prix and 65 pole positions. In the year 1994 during the San Marino Grand Prix, Senna tragically died while driving for the Williams Formula One team.
Lewis recently while remembering the legacy of Senna said, “I don’t really believe in ‘the greatest of all time’ thing because you look at Ayrton..he didn’t have the same opportunities. I always thought maybe if we were doing a relay race.., Ayrtons passing me the baton & I’m trying to take it forwards.”
Lewis Hamilton during the event stressed that he does not believe in the greatest of all time thing, and just to prove his point the Brit indicated Ayrton didn’t have the same opportunities in his racing days as he has had in his career so far.
Lewis believes that it is every driver’s job to believe that they are the best and while referencing Senna, stressed that he sees it as his duty to take the legacy of the Brazilian forward.
Lewis Hamilton chasing a record-breaking eighth World Title
Lewis Hamilton so far in his career has won 7 world championships and is currently at par with Michael Schumacher in terms of championships won.
Lewis just needs to win one more championship to break the record he and Schumacher share at the moment. The 2022 Formula One season has not started the way Lewis would have wanted but knowing that the 2022 season is only three races down, who knows Mercedes might be able to put forward a car that would allow Hamilton to chase after Leclerc who is leading everyone at the moment.
Lewis sees Ayrton as his role model and someone he looks up to and there would no other better way for Lewis to show his respect towards the legendary Senna than to secure his eighth world title and become the out and out record holder.
