“He doesn’t even want to say my name, so he probably doesn’t want to get these hands either,” Leon Edwards claims Colby Covington is running from him
Leon Edwards and Colby Covington
The number 3 ranked UFC Welterweight fighter Leon Edwards is forced to find a new opponent for himself after his fight with Khamzat Chimaev gets canceled for the third time.
Now, Edwards is looking for a big fish to fry and UFC is also targeting a big fight for Edwards. According to sources, the promotion is trying to book a fight between him and former interim champion Colby Covington.
In his latest interview at The Mac Life, Edwards claims that Colby Covington is weird and he is running from him. Edwards says, “I know for a fact that’s what the UFC is pushing for,”
“That’s what they’re putting to me, that’s what they’re putting to his team. Colby Covington, you can’t say what’s going to happen because he’s a weird, weird man,”
“So it’s hard to say one hundred percent it’s going to happen. I know the fight sounds good to me and my team. The UFC wants the fight. I don’t know, he might go running again. You never know. I’m ready to go, the UFC’s ready to go, they’re pushing for the fight.”
Leon Edwards say Covington wants to get these hands
After his win against Gilbert Burns, Kamaru Usman stated that he wants a rematch with Jorge Masvidal. Also, Colby Covington hasn’t fought until he won the fight against Tyron Woodley.
So Covington has nowhere left to go instead to face Edwards. But Edwards is sure Covington doesn’t want to get these hands. He added, “He doesn’t even want to say my name. So he probably doesn’t want to get these hands either.”
“Who knows, he’s a weird, weird man. … If they do go down that route to making Masvidal vs. Usman, then where does he go? He has to fight me, I’m number three ranked in the world. I’ll go out there, I’ll beat him and that’ll put me right in line for a title shot next this year.”
