Tim Means capitalized on replacing Robbie Lawler on short- notice, for his match up with “Platinum” Mike Perry. Perry, who weighed in at 175.5 lbs, was 4.5 lbs over. Had he been 0.5 lbs more, the commission would have stepped in to shut down the bout; however the fight proceeded to take place at catchweight with Perry forfeiting 30% of his purse to Means.

He was sending me Instagram messages like, two weeks ago, eating big cheeseburgers with onion rings on them, stuff like that,” Means said at the UFC 255 post-fight presser.” I have nothing but respect for the guy, I know he’s going through some adversity and stuff and sh*t will just make him stronger.”- Means relating to adversities faced by Perry earlier in the year.

Perry had a rather stressful year, being charged with assault in July over an altercation at a restaurant in Lubbock, Texas and having domestic violence charges levied against him by his ex-wife, Danielle Nickerson. Perry and his fiance, Latory Gonzalez are currently expecting their first child as well.

Means goes on to explain how his family influenced him to live a better life. “If you do any digging on my background it’s not like I’ve been embarrassed of it or whatever,” Means said. “I might not be happy with the decisions I’ve made in the past but my daughters and my wife Brenda, they got me on the straight and narrow, especially my wife.

“I thought the fight went as planned”- Means after defeating Perry at UFC 255

In the first round of their match, Means was brought down to the mat by Perry and forced to defend against a rear naked choke. Means managed to defend against the attempt till the end of round one, resulting in an extremely tired out Perry entering round two.

Here on out Tim Means went on to out-strike Perry in both rounds 2 and 3, ultimately leading to the victory by decision in favour of Means.

I wasn’t really stressed about him not making weight, I knew he did just enough energy-wise to get within that five-pound limit to where we could still have a fight. He got up there dancing so I knew he still had plenty of energy. I knew he was gonna be strong, have a lot of heart, be durable, and that all happened the night of the fight.
