“ He gave wings to Tsitsipas to continue fighting hard, to prevail in the next three sets” says Toni Nadal
Rafael Nadal forgo a 2 set lead, lost the next three sets, to lose his Quarter Final match in 5 sets. And this has not gone down too well with uncle Toni Nadal. Toni in an article wrote that it was Nadal’s unforced errors and weak tennis that let Stefanos Tsitsipas back in that Quarter Final tie.
Uncle Toni also said that he kept waiting to see Nadal get back to prime fitness, but it never happened. Toni advises Nadal that what’s gone is gone. And now he must turn his attention to the French Open. Rafael Nadal also called ‘ The King of Clay’ has 13 French Open titles, and if he wins the 14th this year it will be his 21st Grand slam overall.
Tsitsipas ends Nadal’s dream of a 21st Grand Slam trophy win at the Australian Open 2021
Stefanos Tsitsipas the Greek tennis star ended Rafael Nadal’s dream of winning the Australian Open 2021. If Nadal had won this trophy, he would have passed Roger Federer and become the men’s player with the highest number of Grand Slams. But alas that was not to be. Now Nadal has to be content with only a Quarter Final appearance at the 2021 Australian Open.
The match itself was not a straightforward one. It was as if it was a contest of two halves. The first two sets were well and truly Nadal’s and he took a 2-0 lead, and quite rightly too. But after that Nadal put the foot off the gas, and played a little conservatively. Tsitsipas as if was waiting for that one false move. The tall Greek with long flowing locks and an equally good looking single handed backhand didn’t need a second invitation. He continued to attack Nadal’s backhand, continued to serve and volley, The pressure put on Nadal was so much that he started to make many errors, which is very uncharacteristic of Nadal. In the end, Tsitsipas deservedly won the match in 5 sets, 3-6 2-6 7-6 6-4 7-5.
