“He shows he’s human too” Daniil Medvedev’s coach ‘thanks’ Novak Djokovic for his poor form at the Nitto ATP Finals
Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev
The World No.4 Daniil Medvedev made an astounding turn-around this past season. The Russian went on to lift the Nitto ATP Finals title in 2020 after losing all of his bouts in 2019. Medvedev’s coach, Gilles Cervara thanked the World No.1, Novak Djokovic for not being at his best during the clash against his ward.
Daniil outplayed Nole and vanquished him 6-3, 6-3 in the Group Stage. The former didn’t allow the latter to convert the only break point he had a look at in the course of their clash. While Medvedev was partly the reason for Djokovic ‘not being able to play his best,’ the World No.1 also didn’t seem to be competing at his usual high standards.
Cervara expressed his gratitude towards the Serb for sporting a ‘poor form.’
Cervara thanks Djokovic, but doesn’t underestimate Medvedev
During an interview on Winamax TV, Cervara claimed that he was more than happy to be witnessing Djokovic not compete at the top-level in London.
Gilles claimed that at the crucial point of 5-3 in the 1st set, he “was focused on something else”. Moreover, he “could no longer (make) notes”. Rather, he wrote down “Thank you Djoko” to mark an error made by the World No.1. This inevitably contributed to Daniil’s undefeated victory.
“He (Djokovic) shows he’s human too,” Cervara added.
Cervara praised Medvedev for winning “the Rolex Paris Masters and London Masters in quick succession,” on account of his own prowess.
