Dominic Thiem failed to lay claim to his maiden Nitto ATP Finals title. The Austrian lost to an eager Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7, 4-6. This is Thiem’s second consecutive loss in the finale of this tournament. Last year, Stefanos Tsitsipas ousted him 6-7, 6-2, 7-6. However, he beat some of the best in history to set up this clash against the World No.4.

Despite of another disappointing loss in the final showdown, Thiem reacted positively to his cumulative result of 2020.

Virtually, the 27-year old has been a game away from winning this accolade twice now. However, he doesn’t rue the loss and admitted that he would use the same tactics against Daniil if given another chance.

In his post-match press conference, Thiem recounted his adversary’s skill. “The way he broke me in the third set was unreal,” he said.

The U.S Open champion commended the Russian by adding, “If you look at the whole tournament, he was the best player.”

Even though Domi failed to lift the year-end title, he expressed that “it has been an outstanding year. I have reached one of my big lifetime goals with winning that Grand Slam.”

Inspite of producing the best result of his career in 2020, Thiem is far from done. In fact, he stated that he “wants to climb up the Rankings.”

The World No.3 aims to further solidify his dominance at the ATP Tour and will get ready to do so at the onset of 2021.
