Helmut Marko believes Red Bull could take advantage of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton contract woes

Dr. Helmut Marko

There is no doubt in saying that Lewis Hamilton was in a league of his own in the 2020 F1 Season. Having led the Silver Arrows to numerous podiums, Hamilton equalized Michael Schumacher’s Championship record in the previous season itself. However, one driver that came close to leaving past Mercedes’ other driver Valtteri Bottas was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The Finnish driver claimed the P2 position with just a nine-point difference to Verstappen at P3.
Red Bull Supremo, Helmut Marko feels that his team could take advantage of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s contract woes. Marko believes that the Milton Keynes team could possibly take advantage of this troubling situation in 2021. Hamilton and Mercedes have been going back and forth in their contract talks. With numerous rumors being aired up every single day. Which understandably will continue until and unless an official word comes in.
Helmut Marko on Hamilton and Mercedes contract woes
Marko explained that Hamilton has only two options, “Take a sabbatical or sign up at Mercedes.” He believes that irrespective of the decision, there will be a little unrest within the team. Marko further pointed out, “of course we hope that we can benefit from that.”
“Sergio brings a lot of knowledge about Mercedes with him. After they let him go at Racing Point, he was obviously very attentive to everything Mercedes did. We hope for a lot of input from this side,” added the Red Bull Supremo.
As Red Bull looks to close the gap on Mercedes in the next season, Marko has brough in Sergio Perez in their team for the 2021 season. Marko also clarified that Perez’s understanding of the Mercedes engine played an important role in his Milton Keynes induction for 2021.
