Sergio Perez had his best race in a while at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix following a difficult performance slump. There were even rumors of him being replaced after the 2024 summer break. However, the team decided to stick with him and Baku seemed to be a breakthrough, but a crash with Carlos Sainz while fighting for P3 ended his race.

Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko spoke about how the crash between Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz affected Red Bull’s plan for the Singapore GP. The 81-year-old noted that Sainz’s sudden move left directly caused the crash with Checo, which Marko believed was unnecessary.

While Sainz refused to take the blame for the crash, Marko felt that this move wasn’t necessary, especially because only two laps were remaining in the race.

I see a rather abrupt move to the left by Sainz, which ultimately caused this crash. It was totally unnecessary to provoke something like this with two laps to go.
Helmut Marko told SkyDe.com

Marko explained that Perez had a better exit from the corner, gaining more speed and momentum. He refused to give up his position and maintained his racing line. As a result, he fully blamed Sainz for the incident on the penultimate lap of the Azerbaijan GP.

Perez clearly got out of the corner better and didn't give up his spot voluntarily. He stuck to his line.

Helmut Marko claims Singapore GP will be even more difficult than Azerbaijan GP

Helmut Marko expressed his frustration with the crash that has cost the team a significant number of points, making their preparations for the Singapore GP even harder. He mentioned that the team needs to check if the damaged car parts can still be used.

This situation has put extra pressure on Red Bull heading into the next race. The team will have to assess the condition of their equipment to ensure they are ready.

But now it has cost us an incredible amount of points, it will be even more difficult for Singapore.
We now have to see if we can use the parts of the car at all.
Helmut Marko stated

Red Bull was already struggling to deliver promising performances and Perez’s crash has further compounded their challenges. The team has lost its lead to McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship and might now fight it difficult to regain the top spot immediately.
