A while ago, Formula 1 went into a frenzy when it came to Oscar Piastri’s F1 contract. For a driver who didn’t seemed to get an F1 contract, suddenly all the teams wanted him. Having previously been in the Alpine junior driver academy, he was announced as the team’s second F1 driver partnering Ocon without his consent. This later turned into a big deal.
The Aussie driver went on to deny the fact that he has been hired by the Enstone based squad. Later on, McLaren announced that Oscar Piastri had joined their team to replace the outgoing Daniel Ricciardo which turned out to shock the whole paddock. Alpine on the other hand didn’t like this one bit and was willing to take both Piastri and McLaren to the court.
And that’s exactly what they did. However, the result didn’t turn out in their favour and the team ended up paying huge sums of money to Oscar Piastri and McLaren. Later on, it was announced that Pierre Gasly was the replacement that Alpine had chosen for Fernando Alonso so everything eventually turned out great for all the parties in the end.
Zak Brown sees a champion in Oscar Piastri
Here is what the McLaren CEO had to say whilst in a conversation with Racer . “We think Oscar’s going to be a sensational racing driver. If you look at his career to date, he’s won a lot of championships in his first year which always tells you a driver’s special. He’s got a great mental approach to the sport, and now that we feel that Lando has a lot of experience we feel like we have a great blend of experience and youth,” he said.
With Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris by his side, it’s pretty clear that Zak Brown has an incredible lineup in place for McLaren’s 2023 charge. With great talent and experience, the team seems to have a perfect blend of youth also. For McLaren’s future, the two have made themselves important prospects. After a poor season in 2022, the team will be focused on providing their drivers with a good car to tackle their rivals.
