The Inter State Athletics Championships, Patiala are being held from 25th to 29th June and is the last chance for athletes to secure a spot at the Tokyo Olympics. They must do this either by breaching the Olympic qualification time, or by bagging good times to increase their overall ranking, through which they will be selected for the Olympics. Big names like Hima Das, Dutee Chand and Tejaswin Shankar are looking to qualify for the Olympics at this Meet.

Das, who has already faced a back injury, has shifted her focus on the 100m, 200m as well as the 4x100m races. She ran her best 200m time at the Indian Grand Prix 4, with a 20.88s, but missed the qualification mark of 20.80s. She is yet to qualify for any events at the Olympics, and this may be her last chance to do so. However, this injury puts a doubt on whether she will even race in any of the events which will help her qualify for the Olympics.

Das was hopeful about qualifying for the Olympics in the 100m, until she injured her hamstring today morning, possibly ending her time at the Inter-state Events. This could prove to be fatal for Das, who needs a good time to better her rankings and secure a spot at the Tokyo Olympics.

This injury could also mean that the women’s 4x100m relay team will suffer, as Das was a part of the team with Dutee Chand, Archana Suseendran and Dhanalakshmi who had set a new national record at the Indian Grand Prix 4, with a time of 43.37s, a whole five seconds faster then the previous record.
