Nikola Jokic notched up only the third ever 60-point triple-double in NBA history on April 1st. The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves did battle over regulation and two periods of overtime. The result – a 140-139 win for Minnesota – came on the back of some elementary mistakes by Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook was able to cause a turnover for the Nuggets with the game clock winding down and only 17 seconds left. However, when Christian Braun threw him the ball to finish an easy transition layup, the former MVP missed. The mistake went from bad to ghastly when Westbrook found himself fouling an open 3-point shooter as the Wolves generated a transition opportunity while he idled in the backcourt.

The braindead plays from Westbrook notwithstanding, the historic nature of Jokic’s outing wasn’t lost on onlookers. Every nook and corner of the NBA fanverse is recognizing just how well the Serbian three-time MVP is playing. Hip-hop legend and member of The LOX Jadakiss was also an active member of NBA Twitter in its wake. The D-Block superstar was unbridled in his praise for Jokic following his 60/11/10 outing.

61/10/10 is wild !!! They might have to make 2 mvp’s this season!!!! what he’s doing is insane

Jadakiss tweeted

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is currently the betting favorite to win his first MVP trophy, at odds of -900. The OKC Thunder superstar is the major reason for his team being 51 wins over .500. OKC are in contention to finish with a 70-win regular season – only the second of this century and third in history. With how well their entire roster has performed despite being the youngest NBA team, SGA would be a deserving winner.

However, it is clear that Nikola Jokic is playing at a level probably never seen before in basketball history. This is a man who’s simultaneously the best scorer (in production and skill) and the best passer in the league. Jokic seems to have perfected offensive basketball at a level truly never replicated in league history. Averaging 29.7/12.8/10.2 and being a top-3 player in the NBA in 4 different stats is something never achieved before.

Anthony Edwards, other Timberwolves echo Jadakiss’ sentiments about Nikola Jokic

Jokic had to put the Nuggets offense on his back in the absence of Jamal Murray. The team plugged in Peyton Watson to the starting lineup in the Canadian guard’s absence. However, their offense was clearly a step below its usual efficient self, and Westbrook soon had to see extended spells of floor time.

Anthony Edwards came up clutch for the Wolves in the clutch periods, but he could do nothing to stop Jokic on the other end. The last bucket of the game was scored by Jokic backing Edwards down into the post and making a floater over him. The Antman was understandably dazed by the skill level displayed by Jokic on the night. His post-game comments revealed just as much

That might’ve been the best game of my life I’ve been a part of. Nikola Jokic, bruh, oh my God. This might be the best basketball player I’ve ever seen, besides myself (to myself).

Anthony Edwards said in a locker room interview

The Timberwolves were able to move level with the Memphis Grizzlies at a 44-32 record with this win. They can snag a playoff berth if they continue their recent upward trajectory.
