A post by ATP Tour on X praising World No. 2 Jannik Sinner irked Holger Rune. They met at the Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-finals which lasted for about three hours, with the Italian winning with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-7(6-8), 6-3.

The ATP Tour shared a clip of the second set in which Sinner won a point after the two were tied 5-5. “May the force be with you,” wrote the ATP Tour as a caption for the clip.

Rune, who played three matches within 24 hours, did not take this lightly. Due to rain, he had to play his second-round match on Thursday against Sumit Nagal before facing Grigor Dimitrov later that day after a short rest for about 90 minutes. That intense match lasted for about three hours, where he also saved a set point and two match points before winning it by 7-6(9), 3-6, 7-6(2). The next day, he faced Sinner, playing another intense match.

So Rune called out the ATP Tour for the scheduling of his matches and the disturbance caused due to the umpire’s warning during the clash against Sinner. Notably, Rune received a time violation, prompting the crowd to boo the 20-year-old. His hand gesture to the crowd made the umpire give him a warning, and he ended up arguing with the umpire, also asking the supervisor why he received the warning. So after losing, Rune criticized the ATP Tour for the tweet.

Meaning what @atptour…..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place, having to play 2 matches the day before ending late, leaving almost no recovery time. The chair Umpire makes crucial mistakes and gives the wrong warning disturbing the game. May the force be with you. Jesus Christ.

Fans sympathized with Holger Rune but also made him understand that the rain delay was not ATP’s fault. Some fans pointed out how even Rafael Nadal had to play two matches in one day due to rain and won them as well.

Netizens also blasted the ATP Tour for being “partial” towards Jannik Sinner. A fan wrote that Rune was “absolutely right“, but he needs to change his attitude. Some of them slammed the umpire and the crowd behavior for shifting the momentum, while some fans asked him to stop finding fault with something that was outside his control. That victory was Sinner’s back-to-back one against the Dane. They previously met at the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals. After this match against the Dane, Sinner faced Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals, but was eventually beaten by the Greek.
