Holger Rune’s quest for the perfect coach continues as he fired Patrick Mouratoglou for the second time in under a year. This is the fourth time he parted ways with a coach in the last twelve months.
Rune has been heavily criticized for these seemingly hasty decisions and was even mocked when he re-hired Mouratoglou earlier this year. In August last year, the two had split due to ego clashes in the team.
Rune has changed coaches more frequently than any player has in recent times. In November 2023, he announced his partnership with German tennis legend Boris Becker, who had just come out of prison following a bankruptcy issue.
Later in December, he onboarded Roger Federer’s former coach Severin Luthi, but their relationship lasted just a month. Right after Luthi parted ways with the Danish player, Becker announced in February 2024 that he would be doing the same due to personal commitments.
Rune’s 2023 season was disappointing but Becker’s presence provided some saving grace. With him gone, he approached Mouratoglou once again and they resumed their partnership. Besides the Frenchman, former player Kenneth Carlsen joined the coaching staff.
On Monday (June 29), Rune too to social media to announce that he would not be working with Mouratoglou anymore and would instead continue with Carlsen as his head coach.
Holger Rune provides an injury update, assures a quick return
Holger Rune suffered a wrist injury at the German Open in Hamburg. He was forced to withdraw in the quarterfinal against eventual winner Arthur Fils, when he trailed the Frenchman 1-6, 1-4.
The severity of the injury meant that any attempt to recover before the Paris Olympics would have been fruitless. Rune was forced to give up a chance to represent his country at one of the most prestigious sporting events.
However, The World No. 16 recently took to social media and stated that things were going well in his recovery, giving his supporters something to smile about.
