Fourth down and two on eight minutes in the first quarter, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a dart to Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who ran across the field to receive and lock the first down. Brown had to patiently wait four months for his chance to experience a pass from the 3x Super Bowl winner.

Some will argue he returned quickly considering the injury he suffered in September. Brown succumbed to a sternoclavicular injury in the preseason, and the Chiefs subsequently placed him on injured reserve. His estimated time of recovery was around the end of January.

The Chiefs had to qualify for the playoffs for Brown to make his debut for the reigning Super Bowl winners. He shocked even his own teammates by completing the rehab a month in advance.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs became the first team to write their name in the playoffs, which took the pressure off from Brown, helping in his recovery.

From day one, Mahomes saw greatness in the former Cardinals and Ravens player. When they played together on Saturday, he noticed further improvement.

I missed him here and there on a couple of throws, but I thought he was getting open.

According to Pro Football Focus, Hollywood Brown was part of the game for 16 pass plays. He caught five for 45 yards from eight targets.

The Chiefs already secured postseason football for another season a few weeks back. Now they only need one win from the remaining two games (Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos) to lock the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Brown’s debut came at a great time for the Chiefs. These three games will provide him with the necessary game experience to attack the playoffs at full strength.

I could be an asset to the team, to my guys here with me, so that’s just all I’m really trying to do.
