How CSK can qualify for the playoffs? Check scenarios

CSK

The four-time champion Chennai Super Kings are having the worst IPL season in 2022 They have lost their 6 games in 7 matches and with 4 points, they are standing second last on the points table, followed by the 5-time champions Mumbai Indians who have lost 8th straight games.

In the history of IPL, CSK weren’t able to play the playoffs only for one time and this shows how successful this team is. But after so many defeats, it’s an extreme difficult task for the Men in Yellow to make it to the playoffs this year. They have only won against Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians.

Requirement for the playoffs

CSK
Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni

14 points are required in order to play the playoffs. Now with 2 wins, CSK will need to win their 6 matches of their last seven matches. CSK’s net run rate is -0.534. CSK are the defending champions but they haven’t played like one so far.

CSK has to win their every single match to make it to the playoffs. Not only that, they have to win them with a good Net Run Rate. This year, MS Dhoni, who has led the team since the inaugural season of IPL in 2008 has stepped down from the captaincy and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja replaced him.

Jadeja’s side will need a big margin to win the matches. Even of CSK were able to win them they will have to have a NRR because other teams are also competing for the spot.

Right now, they have the 4rd worst NRR in the league. It’s just better than the 8th placed Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians who are the last. CSK have suffered their 6th defeat by the hands of the Punjab Kings.

Five of the ten teams have gained at least 10 points- they are- Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants’ and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
