Athletics at Tokyo Olympics; men's 10000m finals

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will include 48 medal events from August 1 and August 11, 2024. The tournament will feature an equal number of events for men and women, which is a first in Olympic history. Four locations will be used: the Stade de France for track and field, the Pont d’Iéna for race walking and the Hôtel de Ville and Les Invalides for the marathon.

Notable modifications include a repechage phase for individual track events ranging from 200m to 1500m and hurdles, which gives runners a second opportunity to advance. The mixed relay marathon race walking event will be introduced at these Games.

The qualification procedure is based on entrance requirements and global rankings. If the requirements are met, each NOC may participate up to three competitors in each individual event. The marathon qualification season lasts from November 2022 to April 2024, while other events qualify from July 2023 to June 2024.

Paris Olympics 2024 Athletics: Schedule

The athletics events at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held from August 1 to August 9. All times are in Central European Summer Time (CEST) and are subject to change. Key dates include:

  • August 1: Men’s 20 km race walk at 11:00 AM and Women’s 20 km race walk at 12:50 PM.
  • August 2: Men’s decathlon begins at 10:00 AM.
  • August 3: Women’s heptathlon starts at 10:00 AM.
  • August 4: Finals for Men’s long jump at 10:00 AM and Women’s high jump at 7:00 PM.
  • August 5: Finals for Men’s javelin throw at 7:00 PM.
  • August 6: Finals for Women’s 100 meters at 9:00 PM.

Past winners in Athletics – A look at Tokyo 2020

Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won the men’s marathon gold medal. He finished the marathon with an amazing time of 2:08:38. Peruth Chemutai of Uganda won the women’s marathon, which was an unprecedented victory.

Field events were equally exciting. Greek athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou won gold in the men’s long jump. Women’s high jump saw two competitors tie for gold, both reaching amazing heights.
