“I am completely addicted to tennis” – Andrey Rublev reveals what Tennis means to him
Rising Russian, Andrey Rublev has been the player who managed to grab an identity for himself in the curtailed 2020 season. Rublev made waves last year, picking up five titles on the tour, the highest by any player across the men’s and women’s category.
The 23 year-old Russian has now opened up on his love for tennis and how the sport makes his world go round.
“I cannot imagine my life without it” – Andrey Rublev
In an interview to Tennis Channel, Rublev said he was hooked to the game right from boyhood and all he ever wanted to be was a tennis player.
“Tennis is life, (it) is everything for me. Since I was a kid, it has been my life. I could give everything for tennis,” the Russian said.
Rublev further said that tennis is more like a life drug for him and hardly a day goes by when he is not playing or thinking about the game. “I am completely addicted to tennis and I cannot imagine my life without it,” Rublev further mentioned.
No secret, only hard work key to success for Rublev
When asked how he prepares himself for tournaments and if there’s a secret formula to his impressive run last year; Rublev clarified saying:
“There’s no secret. Gym in the morning, there’s gonna be some injury prevention (exercises) and some mobility for my body.”
Further, Rublev also mentioned that he is aware of weaknesses and how he wishes to improve to compete against top players.
“I know exactly the things that I need to improve to compete better against top players. At this level, you know what you are missing and what you’re doing well.“
Rublev’s run of championship wins last year helped him move up the rankings and even break into the Top-10. He finished the season ranked eighth. After his attention-worthy show on the tour last year, the Russian will be eyeing his maiden Grand Slam title going at the Australian Open starting on February 8th.
