“I am going to give my all,” Novak Djokovic confident to break Roger Federer’s record as World No. 1
World No. 1, Novak Djokovic aced his 36th ATP Masters 1000 title in Rome on Monday after a thriller victory over Argentine Diego Schwartzman. Surpassing Pete Sampras in the list of most number of weeks as the World No.1, Novak Djokovic’s 5th Italian Open crown enabled him to consolidate his position at the Top by delivering essential ATP rank points.

Novak Djokovic stands second on the list with 287 weeks as World No.1. The Swiss Maestro Roger Federer leads the chart with 310 weeks. Looking forward to cruise past the 20-time grand slam champion, the Top seed revealed his confidence and the primary objective to break the record in the post-match press conference.
“Well, of course, I am aware of the amount of weeks and I don’t know exactly the date but I know it’s going to be in beginning of the second quarter of next year if I eventually maintain my number one rankings. I am getting closer, in a very good position, I feel like I have been playing really well and being healthy which is great,” Djokovic said.
”Yes I mean those are the two professional goals that I have at the moment so the historic number one ranking is something that is on the horizon,” he added.
The Serb stands third behind his ‘Big Three’ counterparts (Federer and Nadal) in the Grand Slam titles tally. Djokovic has 17-majors’ crowns to his name, whereas the Swiss Master and King of Clay have 20 and 19 Grand Slams respectively.
Aiming to break the record soon, the World No. 1 said, “And I am going to give my all and the very best that I can possibly give in the next period to achieve that and then of course after that obviously the attempt to reach that I am going to focus on slams mostly. Slams will be the big one of course and let’s see I feel confident about myself and I feel confident that I can achieve that goal.”
Mentally and physically enthralled, Djokovic presently aims for consistency so that he is able to surpass Federer in the next 6 months.
