It has been a while since fans got to witness Roger Federer step on the court. The 20-time Major champion has been currently recuperating from twin knee surgeries and he is hoping to make a comeback as early as in 2021. At the age of 39, and with surgeries on such delicate part, it is difficult even for a player of Swiss Maestro’s caliber for a successful return to the sport.
However, Federer’s familiar foe and another icon of tennis Novak Djokovic believes that it will be a big mistake on the part of every player to put him out of reckoning. The 33-year old Serb has full confidence that Federer will again bid for Grand Slams and he is not going to hang his boots anytime soon.
Race for most Major trophies would be a great one: Novak Djokovic
Roger Federer going through rehabilitation is not a new thing. The Swiss Maestro underwent a similar process in 2016, however, he came back as good as ever in 2017. Vary of this, Djokovic feels that age is just a number for Federer and he will continue to fight for Grand Slams.
As quoted by a Serbian media outlet, Djokovic said, “Regardless of his age, he’s always the favourite. You know, if he feels good physically, he should be up there fighting for the titles. Roger keeps on proving to everyone that he can make it. The race for most Major trophies is there, and it should be a great one if all three of us remain healthy for a couple more years.”
It would be a rare occasion when the thinking of the Serb would be matching with the tennis frenzy fans. Let’s all hope that what the Serb has said comes out to be true and we again get to see perhaps the biggest rivalry tennis has ever seen between the ‘Big Three’, which includes Rafael Nadal along with the above-mentioned two legends.
