‘I am not fighting Jon Jones to prove that I deserve a heavyweight title shot’ – Curtis Blaydes has his sights set only on the title
Curtis ‘Razor’ Blaydes is close to his third bout of the year. Having beaten all the previous four opponents he has faced, Blaydes is climbing up the heavyweight ladder once again since his defeat to Francis Ngannou. This week he takes on number 4 ranked heavyweight contender in the form of Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis. As for Derrick, he is coming off a marauding victory over the vastly experienced Aleksei Oleinik. The winner of the match might probably take on the number 1 ranked heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou as well.
Elsewhere, former Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones too moved recently to the heavyweight division; although, he is yet to make his debut in the new weight class.
Speaking about this, Curtis Blaydes revealed that he was not one bit interested in fighting Jon Jones and all he wanted was the title shot.
“I can fight a bum to make $200,000” – Curtis Blaydes
Speaking to Aaron Bronsteter of TSN Sports, Curtis Blaydes said, (when asked about fighting Jon Jones), “I am not doing that. I win this fight and I want a title shot. I am not gonna be canning orders to build-ups. I have that recognition and I don’t have to take that, I don’t need it (Jones Fight). I am not fighting Jon Jones to prove that I deserve a heavyweight title shot. That’s ridiculous!”
He went on, saying, “We’re talking about money. I’m not going to fight Jon Jones for $200,000. That’s ridiculous. I think a lot of people forget that we get paid what we get paid regardless of who the opponent is. I can fight a bum to make $200,000.”
Do you agree with Curtis Blaydes? Do you feel Curtis isn’t giving Jon the respect he deserves?
