Francis Ngannou- Chael Sonnen

UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou might be at the top of the world after winning the biggest fight of his UFC career when he defeated his former teammate Ciryl Gane, but Chael Sonnen thinks that position isn’t going to stay on forever if the UFC steps away from his shine.

Ngannou secured a unanimous decision victory over Gane at UFC 270 that not only secured his championship status in the UFC but his dreams of fighting in professional boxing have some feathers added to it if not all yet. But the UFC is not on good terms to deal with Ngannou where he demands to give him the liberty to compete in boxing while staying intact with the MMA promotion or else he will leave the company for once and for all.

“The pay was for the sitting UFC champion,” Chael Sonnen on when Conor McGregor boxed Floyd Mayweather though the UFC

Chael Sonnen took to his Youtube channel to talk about Ngannou having the aspirations of fighting the current heavyweight champion in boxing, Tyson Fury. Sonnen shows a clear path to what free agency to pursue boxing could cost Ngannou if there’s no cooperation to his desires from the UFC’s side.

I do believe Francis is being given bad advice wherever Francis is thinking that the world wants him to go and fight Tyson Fury…” says Sonnen. “So his opportunity cost just to wait till December for a fight he does not have would be the better part of his entire career earnings, that’s his decision, I would like to know how this got put in his head?…”

“Does he think because he has a tweet from Tyson Fury that Tyson wants to do the fight?…” continues Sonnen. “We have seen it [MMA fighter boxing a boxer] only once and that was Conor McGregor who was a simultaneously double champion in the UFC, nothing is bigger than that, Francis is not in a spot bigger than that…”

“But [also] Conor McGregor didn’t get $100 million dollars… the pay was for the sitting reigning UFC champion, who had the greatest carnival barker in the business Dana White [UFC President] behind him, that is what you got $100 million dollars. If December rolls around next year… and if Francis is no longer the undisputed champion and he no longer has the power of the organization behind him, the unlikeliness of a payday in boxing with Fury exponentially declines,” Sonnen says.

What do you make of Sonnen’s concerns on Ngannou’s free agency once the latter goes for pursuing his own boxing career? Do you think Ngannou would have a head time in making it into boxing if that happens? Do you think Ngannou will leave his MMA career forever to do anything to fight Tyson Fury?
