‘I can’t live like this anymore’ Alexander Zverev’s ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova talks further about her ordeals in New York and Geneva

Olya Sharypova, an ex-girlfriend of tennis star Alexander Zverev, recently opened up about her horrid experience with the German in 2019.
In an interview with Ben Rothenburg, a prominent tennis reporter, she revealed her entire experience in New York and Geneva, some of the darkest moments in their relationship and her life.
How Vasil Surduk’s stepmother played a part in the saga

We earlier covered a portion of the interview which recounted Sharypova’s incident at the New York hotel.
Now, after the incident, Olya took refuge in Vasil’s stepmother’s house as she didn’t know or trust anyone else nearby. Vasil’s stepmother also participated in the interview. “Why I’m stepping in here is because I pushed her back. She didn’t want any of that,” she said. “She wanted just to leave. And Vasil supported me at that time. We both made them make peace and get back together.”
She didn’t believe Olya’s narrative and was focused on reuniting Zverev with her. To facilitate that, she invited Zverev over to her house. She was initially charmed by the German’s personality and refused to believe that anything was wrong. Her thoughts back then were to instill peace between the couple, figuring them to be going through a rough patch. Acting as a mediator, she helped them “patch up”.
She was delighted when Olya returned to Zverev within three days of her fleeing. Taking them to her birthday dinner and gifting them flowers on their anniversary, she truly believed she had fixed things.
However, Vasil’s stepmother lamented during the interview, bitterly regretting her actions back then. She was sad for not knowing Olya’s feelings and intentions and for pushing her back to a “really good liar”. She further asserted her guilt for not believing Olya and blamed herself for her ordeal. The lady believed she was right then because she also had Vasil’s support. However, now, her feelings were contradictory and more balanced.
Sharypova meanwhile, forgave Zverev because she thought she was very confused. She said, “At that time I thought I was really crazy. I thought I was really out of my mind.”
Olga’s ordeal in Geneva: The worst period of their relationship

After reuniting, Sharypova then accompanied Zverev on his tour. Their next stop was at Geneva, where Zverev would play the Laver Cup.
While the German had a successful outing, winning the tournament for Team Europe in the deciding match, Olya was suffering severely. She said, “I was in a deep depression. I already don’t want to live. I already don’t understand what I’m living for. Whatever happened in Geneva, it was worse than anything that came before. Anything else before that was like flowers.”
She also added that since the New York incident, Zverev had gotten increasingly frequent and violent in his abuses. Olya attributed this to Zverev realizing his “physical superiority” over her.
Olya then described their worst fight ever, saying that Zverev went the length of punching her in the face. She mentioned that their previous fights were comparatively mild and only involved things like shoving and arm twisting.
“I was emotionally dying. I didn’t understand everything in my life. I couldn’t understand why I was dealing with this, and why he’s not leaving me, why this keeps happening. I understand that I can’t live like this anymore,” Olya said about the ordeal.
She then took perhaps the worst decision in her life. She decided to end her life.
Maybe that was the only path she saw then, but she was so emotionally disturbed by Zverev’s antics that she simply gave up. She found a stash of insulin in Zverev’s room; a high dose of insulin is deadly to a healthy person. She then proceeded to inject the insulin into her system, fully expecting to die with no fear.
Locking herself into the bathroom, she was waiting for any effects, when Zverev, along with an event official, convinced her to open up the door. She then received glucose tablets to counter the effect of the insulin.
While Olya recovered back to health, she was deeply affected by her attempt. She said, “I was ready for that; I wanted to. I didn’t want to live anymore. I had always heard these things from him, that I’m a bad person, I don’t deserve anything. I thought, ‘If I’m a bad person and no one cares about me, for what am I living?’ Me, a person who always was happy. I’m really a normal person, and all of my friends know me to be positive, and I’m in this situation.”
She found it extremely difficult breaking the news to her close ones, especially her family. They initially didn’t believe her, as she was such a strong, happy soul that something like suicide would be incomprehensible coming from her.
Sharypova has since then gone on to be happier than she once was, and is surrounded by people she cares about. She only recently found the strength to open up about her ordeal, revealing some of it in her Instagram Stories. She had to prepare herself mentally leading up to this interview, and couldn’t handle telling the entire story. Yes, there is more to it too that is yet to be revealed!
