‘I don’t intend to wait too long, so why not fight Jessica’, Valentina Shevchenko is ready to face Andrade
The UFC women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her title for the 4th time against Jennifer Maia at UFC 255 co-main event. Maia presented a strong challenge in front of Shevchenko but the champ won the fight in the end by the unanimous decision of the judges.
After the fight, Shevchenko is matched to face Jessica Andrade next. The former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade won her debut match in the Lightweight division with a TKO and became the first woman in UFC history to win a fight in the three weight class of UFC.
Shevchenko also doesn’t want to waste time for her next title defense. She is ready for the next fight. In her latest interview with Combate ‘Bullet Valentina’ says, “I’ll take any opponent they put in front of me. But I think that the fairest thing would be to put Jessica Andrade and Lauren Murphy to face each other, but I don’t want to wait that long.”
“That fight would be in a few months, then I would have to wait to face the winner a few more months after that. I don’t intend to wait too long, so why not fight Jessica? Fine by me.”
Shevchenko is impressed by Maia’s performance
Valentina Shevchenko is very much impressed by her opponent Jennifer Maia’s performance at UFC 255. Shevchenko says, “She didn’t surprise me. I expected a tough fight. I didn’t expect it to be an easy fight, I’m not one to believe only in the numbers and put the rest of the data aside. I study my opponents and I watch their fights.”
“I knew she was going to be tough. By analyzing Jennifer’s body, I knew she wasn’t going to be heavy, but dense. Some people are smoother, others are denser. Jennifer is hard to break. I have a good build and so does Jennifer.”
“Fortunately, I was prepared for a hard fight. My plan was to walk out with the victory, I train for everything and let my body choose which technique to use. It seems my body chose to grapple.” This win took Shevchenko’s MMA record to 20-3 and she is ready to face all the other challenges that lie in front of her.
