Mark Hunt and Francis Ngannou

Mark Hunt supports Francis Ngannou’s protest for payday. Ngannou has established his name as one of the biggest superstars of UFC. The French-Cameroonian recently defeated Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 and defended his heavyweight title for the first time.

Ngannou totally dominated Gane throughout the five rounds and didn’t give him an opportunity to capitalize. And the end of five rounds, Ngannou was declared the winner of the bout via unanimous decision and still the UFC heavyweight champion of the world.

During the promotions of the fight, Ngannou was very vocal about his recent experience with the UFC. The fighter revealed that he was getting ill-treated and was neglected by the promotion. As a champion, he deserves certain respect and promotion which the UFC is failing to provide him. Ngannou also raised the question that he is getting way less money than he deserves and he will not continue fighting for 500-600 K per fight.

Mark Hunt was recently invited to an MMA podcast done by Submission Radio where he discussed his life, retirement, legacy, and MMA in general. During the conversation, the former UFC heavyweight superstar was asked about Ngannou and his condition. Hunt was eager to respond about the topic and revealed what he thinks of the whole situation.

Hunt explained that Ngannou is absolutely right and he should continue asking for a better payday. The retired fighter expressed that currently what a champion like Ngannou is getting is completely a joke and very undeserving. The UFC is doing very wrong with these fighters and is not ethical.

With Ngannou I mean of course you should sit out, of course, you should look at his other options. To be the man in MMA getting paid 5-6 hundred thousand dollars is a freaking joke. I got paid 950 six years ago and I never had the belt. So u know right there goes to show u how much these guys are getting exploited,” said Hunt.

Francis Ngannou earned a total of $642k in his last fight against Ciryl Gane. Considering it was a title fight and Ngannou defended his title the payment is certainly unacceptable. Moreover, Dana White not putting the belt around his waist was also another moment of disrespect towards Ngannou. With such negligence from the promotion, Ngannou should look for other options as Hunt pointed out.
