“I just want to be…” – Tottenham player on his incredible move to Everton

Tottenham player Dele Alli has joined Everton on a two-and-a-half-year deal as he looks to reignite his stalling career at Goodison Park on Deadline Day in a deal that could cost up to £40million. The potential £40m transfer fee will be structured based on performance-related add-ons.

Talking to Sky Sports News, Dele Alli talked about his motivations behind the move from Tottenham after 7 years.

He said, “I just want to be happy playing football. Working with Lampard, and the great players Everton have got, is a great opportunity for me to do that. I’m excited to go there, show the fans what I can do, and help the club as much as I can.

The former Tottenham player made 269 appearances in all competitions for the club and scored 67 goals, including 51 in the Premier League. The England midfielder won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and also played an important role in Spurs to reach their first Champions League final in 2019.

However, Dele Alli failed to continue his good performance in recent seasons with his career stagnating in Tottenham. He has struggled to make an impact on this campaign under new Spurs head coach Antonio Conte, having made just six appearances in all competitions since the Italian arrived in November.

“Thank you all for the posts. I spent seven incredible years at Tottenham and made lifelong friends who are now part of the family!

“I wish my brothers all the best for the rest of the season and more.

“To the fans, I want to say thank you. We had some incredible times together that will stay with me for the rest of my life and I will never forget the incredible support you gave me.

“Playing for you was a dream come true and you will always be in my heart.
