LaMelo Ball was the 3rd overall pick in the draft by the Charlotte Hornets. Being this youngest among his brothers, it is a great achievement to be playing at the grandest stage at the age of 19. His elder brother Lonzo Ball plays for New Orleans Pelicans and was asked on how would he guard his younger brother?
Lonzo is known for his perimeter defense. Having played alongside LaMelo, this would be one of the most anticipated matchups in the 2020-21 season. With Lonzo combining with Zion, it would also be interesting to see how LaMelo stands tall against his elder brother.
“It would be a tough night for him” Lonzo Ball on guarding LaMelo
As a guest several months back on The Old Man And The Three podcast with JJ Reddick, Lonzo gave his thoughts on what he expects in their first NBA matchup. He didn’t sound too worried about guarding his youngest brother, saying, “I know his game pretty well, so it might be a tough night for him.”
LaMelo is projected to be a prolific offensive player, but Lonzo plans on making his life tough when they cross paths.
Many pundits as well as fanatics also suggest that playing for Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Hornets could bring the best out of LaMelo Ball. LaMelo’s vision of the court, passing skills, basketball IQ, incredible ball handling, and defense shows he has franchise-altering potential in him. He is also the playmaker the Hornets need, so they can ease the burden for Devonte’ Graham. Not only that, but the 6’7 Ball’s ability to defend his opponent’s biggest guard gives him another edge.
But whether or not will he be greater prospect than his brother, is only up to time to tell. All we could do is enjoy the young and energetic prospect LaMelo Ball is, as the season starts from December 22.
