UFC 271 is all known for the back-to-back middleweight clashes at the main event and co-main event. But it’s the heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa that is most likely to steal the show with a knockout of the night from either of the two sides. Lewis, who has the record for the most knockouts in the UFC heavyweight history last fought against Kyle Daukaus where he knocked the latter out in the first round.
Tuivasa is on a four-fight winning streak and last fought at UFC 269 when he knocked Augusto Sakai out in the second round. Both Tuivasa and Lewis have a combined record of 33 career knockout wins. This fight is settled to make a showstoppers case. UFC 271 is taking place in Toyota Center, Houston, Texas, United States and is headlined by a title rematch between current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and preceding champion Robert Whittaker.
Derrick Lewis believes fighting inside the octagon gives a completely different feeling as compared to fight week
In an episode of Embedded, a series where the UFC’s production staff covers the fight week life of all the athletes fighting in a particular fight card, Lewis was starring talking about the mentality of the fighter getting inside the Octagon and a little bit about his opponent Tuivasa.
“Yeah I’m excited, I’m excited about the hometown crowd, just fighting, period, I’m excited,” says Lewis “Especially against a guy like my opponent. It’s going to be a pretty cool fight… we’re gonna stand up and bang the whole fight, but we’re fighters so ain’t no telling once you step inside the octagon. I could say, oh I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do that but as soon as you step in there, yeah I might turn into a wrestler you never know. So, as soon as the doors closed, it’s a completely different feeling…”
