Formula One team, Mercedes all but confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will extend his stay with them and continue to drive for them for the next season. A post on the team’s official Twitter page carried the hashtags of ‘announce’ accompanied by ‘coming soon.’ There was also a pen emoji with quotes from Hamilton expressing his desire to stay at Mercedes.

The quote read, “I plan to be here next year. I want to be here next year. I think we as a team have more to do together and more to achieve, both in the sport but even more outside it.”

Lewis Hamilton has stated after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, that he hopes of securing a new contract before Christmas. Mercedes Boss, Toto Wolff echoed his sentiments and said that there was no reason why the deal would not go through.

Hamilton has won seven F1 titles

Lewis Hamilton, equaled Michael Schumacher’s record in Formula One, after he claimed his seventh Formula One World Championship this year. The Brit dominated the entire field, winning 11 races in the shortened F1 season which had only 17 races owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lewis Hamilton made his switch from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013, winning six F1 titles since then. He also has the record for most F1 race wins, most podiums and pole positions than any other driver in F1 history. He will look forward to winning his eight Formula One World Championship title next year.

The Brit ended the 2020 season with a third place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, after just recovering in time for the weekend. Hamilton had missed the Sakhir Grand Prix because of his positive covid test. However, he recovered in time for the season finale, and finished the season with a decent performance at the Yas Marina Circuit.
