“I want to cement myself as the GOAT in my division,” Alexander Volkanovski wants to face Conor McGregor to become Featherweight G.O.A.T
‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor making his comeback inside the Octagon in the Lightweight division with a fight against Dustin Poirier. Conor wants to stay committed to the Lightweight division and start his reign again in it.
But with ‘The Notorious’ making his comeback there are other fighters also who are eying to face him. The Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski also wants to face Conor McGregor to cement himself as Featherweight G.O.A.T.
In his latest interview with Submission Radio, Volkanovski says, “Man, there are a few good fights in that division. There are some big names in that division but there is, I guess you could say a connection, obviously with Conor where I beat every other champion in my division,”
“Conor was the featherweight champ, as well. As I said, I want to cement myself as the GOAT in my division. Let’s be honest, there will always be Conor McGregor fans that keep bringing him up and throwing him out there in the conversation.”
“To go out there and sort of show the world that I am the greatest featherweight of all-time, that would be a big fight for me, the money fight, it would be a fun big opportunity and fun fight. And it makes sense because, again, I want that GOAT status.”
Volkanovski is booked to face Brain Ortega next
Although Alexander Volkanovski wants to face Conor McGregor next he still has many challenges lying in front of him in the Featherweight division. He is being booked to face Brian Ortega in March.
This fight hasn’t been finalized yet but still, both of them verbally agreed to face each other. After his win against Calvin Kattar, Max Holloway also got his title shot.
Dana White made it clear that after this performance Holloway is surely in the line for the title shot. If Volkanovski defended his title against Ortega, Holloway will be waiting for him in a trilogy.
