“I was 100% born ready”- Goalkeeper Dean Henderson to stay at United and grapple for the gloves

Manchester United Goal Keeper Dean Henderson missed the FA Cup Third Round tie due to illness and could only manage two starts for the club previously. Following the lack of game time, the player has been keen to move out of the club.

However, after what was a close 1-0 win against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, Rangnick told talkSPORT that the situation has not changed and Henderson is not leaving in this winter transfer window.

Ralf Rangnick

“A couple of weeks ago he asked me [if he could leave] but I told him I’d rather have him stay until the end of the season,” Rangnick told talkSPORT.

“We are very happy with our goalkeepers but if it’s up to me I wouldn’t want him to leave,” he added before reiterating the importance of having more than one top shot-stopper at the club.

When asked about his aim previously and if he still believed he could be No 1, Henderson replied, “Yeah, 100 per cent. I’ve spoke about this for years,” he affirmed. “Whether it gets me in trouble speaking about it, whether it holds me back at certain times, it probably does.

“But at the end of the day it’ll happen one day and I know it’ll happen, so I’m just going to keep working hard day in, day out and my time will come. I was 100 per cent born ready.

“I’ve just got to be ready for when that time comes. There’s no excuses when you step over that white line.

“You’ve got to puff your chest out and go for it and everything that you’ve put in day in, day out, all the training, everything, pays off.”

Henderson did have a stint of good six games last season as he started ahead of David De Gea, but he failed to maintain the top spot this season.
