“I went to therapy after Barcelona’s comeback”- Former PSG star makes startling relevations about ‘La Remontada’

Edinson Cavani in PSG

UEFA Champions League is one such stage where you could feel that any moment could either create a history or break it. Something very similar happened when Barcelona played PSG at Camp Nou back in 2017 in the UCL, the match started hopelessly as the first leg decided the game for Barca losing 4-0.

Edinson Cavani on recalling the incident spoke about it and said a few shocking things about the day they lost the match, 6-5 on aggregate. He said, “I went to therapy after Barca’s comeback against PSG”, indicating the effects the game has sometimes on the player’s mind, and how they deal with such defeats.

He further said, “I would get dizzy before sleeping and I was scared of falling asleep.” This alone describes the major hit that a single game can take on a player’s mind, not everyone goes through it but, not everyone’s able to escape. Cavani is one of those who were not able to perfectly deal with the event.

The game started and the score must end 5-0 in the Catalan’s favor to win the match, which in itself was almost impossible—but opened with Suarez’s goal, followed by Paris’ own goal. Then Paris strikes and it’s 2-1, Barca fans losing all hope there is, now the score must end 6-1 for the Blaugranas to win.

Then came penalties, one from Messi and another from Neymar helped the Catalans gain back some of the lost confidence. The score gets to 4-1, still two goals for the Catalans to get. Then came the famous Neymar curled free-kick, in the dying moments, Neymar’s assist on the verge of getting ruled as an off-side, Sergi Roberto scored.

There came the most famous and undoubtedly the greatest comeback in the history of the UEFA Champions League in 2017, in Camp Nou. The stadium cheered up in confidence and utmost happiness with their team’s display and very unlikely of a typical Barcelona, the fans and the management witnessed.
