Boxing is on the verge of a transitionary period. Even though relatively older superstars like Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford have stayed dominant, youngsters like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and David Benavidez are hot on their heels. Ennis will inch close to a fight with Crawford if victorious in his upcoming matchup against Cody Crowley.

Scheduled as the main event of a DAZN PPV on July 13, Ennis would put his IBF welterweight title on the line against Crowley. Ennis would have a hometown advantage at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, and things have already heated up between the two. Crowley’s manager, Anthony Girges, stirred up the pot, and Boots responded sternly.

Keep talking, man, keep talking. He's [Cody Crowley] going to get the worst beating of his life. I promise you, I promise you that.

The verbal altercation started when Girges questioned the validity of Ennis’ IBF title. Ennis won the interim IBF welterweight title after he defeated Karen Chukhadzhian. He defended it against Roiman Villa, and the IBF elevated him to full champion after Crawford refused to fight him.

For Ennis, a spectacular victory against Crowley is necessary to entice Terence Crawford into a fight. Even though Ennis and Crowley have remained cordial, that’s not the case with their managers, Bozy Boots and Anthony Girges.

Jaron Ennis’ character is the antithesis of Cody Crowley, his upcoming opponent. Crowley has a soft-spoken persona, while Ennis is the opposite. Ennis and Crowley didn’t engage in any verbal altercation at the recent press conference, but Crowley’s manager, Anthony Girges, had it with Ennis and his father, Bozy.

Girges was the one who spoke the most than Crowley. As such, Ennis and his father found it disrespectful, particularly the statement he made about Ennis’ status as the champion. Bozy called out Girges for a fight after their respective fighters settled their score inside the ring. Moreover, Bozy clarified he was serious and even invited Girges to their gym, vowing to win via knockout.

Nevertheless, Ennis is a humongous favorite against Crowley. The fight between the undefeated boxers would be exciting for the fans. Since Terence Crawford is angling for a fight with Canelo Alvarez, Ennis would have to keep winning spectacularly to keep his name in the limelight. If he can’t get the fight with Crawford, Vergil Ortiz Jr. or Shakhram Giyasov could be next.
