The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the calendar for the upcoming decade. In an action-packed nine years, the board is looking to host eight tournaments as the Champions Trophy returns. The last edition of the Champions Trophy was played back in 2017 in England as Pakistan lifted its maiden title.
The next ICC event, following the 2023 World Cup in India, is the 2024 T20 World Cup. The marquee event will be hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies. According to the reports, the move comes as ICC looks to bid for the inclusion of cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Pakistan to host an ICC event this decade while India set to host three
Following an eight-year gap, the Champions Trophy will return in 2025 and Pakistan, the reigning champions will host the competition. The last time Pakistan hosted an ICC event was back in 1996 as it played co-hosts to the ICC World Cup along with India and Sri Lanka.
With the Champions Trophy being held in Pakistan, India’s participation in the event has become uncertain. The relationship between the two nations has been deteriorating ever since the Mumbai terror attacks as bilateral cricket came to a standstill. The Champions Trop[hy could lead to the betterment of relations between the neighbours as bilateral cricket looks a possibility in near future.
India will play co-hosts along with Sri Lanka for the 2026 T20 World Cup before it hosts the Champions Trophy in 2029. The BCCI will then host the 2031 World Cup along with Bangladesh. The 2027 World Cup will take place in Africa with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia coming together to host it.
Australia and New Zealand will co-host the 2028 T20 World Cup. The United Kingdom will play host for the 2030 T20 World Cup as England, Ireland and Scotland will be co-hosting the event. The upcoming decade is all set to be a mouth-watering affair with ICC events stacked one after the other.
