SmackDown this week emanated from Spain for the first time ever. Amid what was a relatively wrestling-heavy episode of the blue brand, WWE snuck in a couple of mystery vignettes. Following unbridled online speculation about who could be behind those, an exclusive report from Cory Hays has spilled the beans.

He has confirmed that the said video packages were for Rey Fenix and Aleister Black. Both of them left AEW in recent weeks. While Black’s parting of ways was rather amicable, Rey’s not so much. The latter was denied a release by AEW in September 2024 when his contract had expired.

The Jacksonville-based promotion’s CEO, Tony Khan, tacked months of injury time on Fenix’s deal. It precluded the luchador from departing and making his rumored move to WWE alongside his real-life brother, Penta. The controversy escalated when former WWE Superstar Baron Corbin defended Khan’s decision to hold Fenix back, citing contractual obligations.

Nonetheless, he’s finally headed to WWE. At first, it was believed that Fenix might be paired up with Penta on Raw. However, his latest SmackDown vignette could entail that the blue brand is going to be Rey’s first hunting ground in WWE.

On the other hand, Malakai Black, fka Aleister Black, recently ended a five-year tenure with AEW. Despite initial exploits, he couldn’t catapult himself into the world title scene. The Dutch grappler has tasted trios acclaim with Brody King and Buddy Matthews. They were labeled as The House of Black.

When will Rey Fenix and Aleister Black pop up on WWE television?

The aforementioned report also notes that both Rey Fenix and Aleister Black aren’t that far away from emerging on WWE programming. The 34-year-old Mexican wrestler is expected to make his WWE debut in the weeks to come, which could be just in time for WrestleMania 41.

In Black’s case, however, it seems as if the higher-ups aren’t going to jump the gun with him. The Harbinger of Fury’s WWE return is planned for the SmackDown episode following WrestleMania. That means the blue brand is about to add The Striking Man from Amsterdam to its roster on April 25, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 39-year-old’s previous WWE main roster run was marred with fits and starts booking. Then-Head of Creative, Vince McMahon, didn’t bother capitalizing on Aleister’s rich haul in NXT. Black’s singles victory over AJ Styles at Elimination Chamber in 2020 was supposed to be the break he was looking for. However, it wasn’t.

The Anti-Hero was released by WWE in June 2021. He had a big-time feud mapped out with Big E back then. Black thrived the best with Triple H having his back in NXT. Now is the tailor-made situation for the Dutch, as The Game is spearheading the main roster creative.

What went down in the main event of SmackDown in Spain?

The tag team division on SmackDown had been in a state of rancor lately. This week, in the main event, The Street Profits ended DIY‘s title reign. Montez Ford pinned Johnny Gargano to secure the win and the coveted WWE tag team titles for himself and Angelo Dawkins.

Before the match, DIY ran into The Motor City Machine Guns backstage. Alex Shelley lashed out at Gargano for flushing their 20-year-long friendship down the toilet just for the sake of winning those belts.

It’s worth noting that Johnny and Tomasso Ciampa dethroned MCMG in December, with Gargano turning heel and getting back on the same page as Ciampa. That being said, the brand-new tag champs will need to keep their head on a swivel as things continue to heat up en route to WrestleMania.

Garza and Berto are two other men who are just waiting in the wings. Last Friday, Pretty Deadly scored an upset win over MCMG. If one looks at it, WWE is leaning toward a Fatal Five-Way feud for the tag team championships. It could very well culminate in a ladder match at The Show of Shows.
