‘He is my idol,’ Iga Swiatek speaks on Rafael Nadal

Iga Swiatek made headlines last year when she became the youngest woman to win the Roland Garros title since Monica Seles in 1992. Early on in the year, she picked up the second trophy of her career at the Adelaide International.

After winning at Adelaide, Swiatek rose to a career-best ranking of 15th in the world. She has had a decent start to the 2021 season, where she reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, losing to Simona Halep in three sets.

The clay season is round the corner and Swiatek will come out to defend her Roland Garros crown. Like many, Swiatek revealed that the ‘King of Clay’, Rafael Nadal is her idol.

‘He’s humble and has stayed the same guy,’ Swiatek on Nadal

Clay is Swiatek’s favorite surface just like her idol Nadal’s. The Spaniard has been a huge inspiration to many players on the current tour and so is the case with Iga Swiatek.

“I really like Rafa Nadal, I have his T-shirt with his signature on my wall,” she said.

“The calendar with Rafa. He is my idol. He’s humble and has stayed the same guy he was before winning so many titles.”

Swiatek is currently playing the Miami Open. She won her Round of 64 match against Barbora Krejčíková 6-4,6-2 and will face Ana Konjuh of Croatia next.
