The Kansas City Chiefs did not want to rest on their laurels after winning the Super Bowl. They went about trying to fix most of the problems that almost threw away their season last year. One part of that solution was bringing in star wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown. But it seems Patrick Mahomes will have to wait for a while before they can start terrorizing defenses.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport first revealed that Brown was placed on IR through the NFL’s official X account. He further gave an additional update on this.

Marquise Brown was expecting to play this week. But as his shoulder did not heal, the team preferred to fix it the right way instead of derailing the rest of the season. The Kansas City Chiefs will not be able to call his name for at least the next four games.

That sets him up to get the benefit of the bye week after their week 6 matchup. In Week 7, the Chiefs are set to play Super Bowl opponents the San Francisco 49ers. If he is healthy by then, expect the Chiefs to thrust him back into action. Even a few snaps against that defense will be a good way to bring him up to speed.

The Chiefs signed him to a bargain one-year deal to gauge how he helps their bid for a three-peat. If he does, that too, with signs suggesting he can continue to be a reliable pass catcher, he could end up staying for the long run.

Xavier Worthy to deputize for Marquise Brown until his return

When Marquise Brown was available, the Chiefs snapped him up. This is before the Rashee Rice car crash even took place. But that car crash could have influenced their decision to spend a first-round pick on Xavier Worthy. Now, with the situations reversed, Worthy will instead deputize for Brown.

The speedy wideout made a splash in his debut with a 2-touchdown game. Using his speed and shiftiness, he managed to evade contact on both trips to the endzone. If anything, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will need a repeat at least until their bye week.

The young star has the opportunity to make the most out of his situation. He will be de facto receiver no. 2 on the roster at least for the next four games. He knows all too well that the offense will spread out even more once the veteran receiver returns.
