India defeated Australia in the fourth and final Test at the Gabba in a thrilling encounter that went down to the wire. The likes of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant delivered for India when it mattered most as India breached the Aussie fortress of Gabba to not only win the match but also the series by a 2-1 scoreline.

Nobody gave India a chance following the horror show at Adelaide and the number of injuries India suffered. However, the team showed incredible courage and heart to be up for the mighty Aussie challenge and not only quelled it but also made a statement as a team destined for more and more success in the future.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat on a sunny morning on Day 1.

Marnus Labuschagne got a hundred for Australia in the first innings.

Debutant T Natarajan picked up three wickets.

Aussie skipper Tim Paine got a half-century. Australia were bowled out for 369.

India found themselves in a real spot of bother but Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur got fifties to rescue the innings.

Josh Hazlewood picked up five wickets for Australia as India were bowled out for 336.

In reply, Smith scored a swift half-century in the second innings.

Mohammed Siraj picked up a fifer while Shardul Thakur got four as Australia were bowled out for 294 setting India a target of 328.

After losing Rohit Sharma early in the chase, Shubman Gill scored 91.

Cheteshwar Pujara hung in despite a plethora of blows and scored a patient fifty.

Rishabh Pant scored 89* to take India to a thrilling victory.

India went on a victory lap around the stadium.

India were deservedly ‘Champions’.
