Jannik Sinner is aiming to defend his title while Alexander Zverev searching for his first Major
Alexander Zverev has not yet won a Grand Slam title and before this Australian Open final, he progressed to the Major final twice, at the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open.
Before reaching the summit clash of the ongoing tournament, Zverev received a walkover from 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. As Djokovic was injured, he couldn’t continue the match following the first set, which he lost.
Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, eased past 21st seed from America, Ben Shelton, in straight sets in the semifinals. He won the Australian Open in 2024, which was also the first time he lifted a Grand Slam title. He came from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev in the final.
Sinner then doubled his Major tally when he emerged as the winner at the 2024 US Open with an easy win over Taylor Fritz. Before the Australian Open final, he met Sascha six times but could beat him just twice.
He registered his second win over the German last year, in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters, which he later won by beating Frances Tiafoe in the final.
The 23-year-old was the most successful player in 2024, winning eight titles, which included his two majors and the ATP Finals title. Zverev, however, was successful in just two tournaments, the Italian Open and the Paris Masters.
