The teen Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah was playing his first T20I ans surprised everyone when he dismissed KL Rahul on golden duck when India clashed against Pakistan on Sunday, August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE.
In the very second ball of his spell, he bowled on a good length around off stump. Rahul tried to play off the back foot but didn’t move his feet. The ball took the inside edge and went back onto shatter the stumps. Teammated then congratulated for his maiden T20I wicket.
He then dismissed in-form Suryakumar Yadav, arguably the hottest batters in T20I currently. On 14.2 over, Naseem bowled on good length around off and the ball pitched and nipped back in sharply. Suryakumar had hung deep and just looked to swing it away leg side. But he was beaten for pace (142 Kph) and the ball castled into the off stump.
Naseem had bowled four overs and conceded 27 runs, dismissing two batters at an economy of 6.75. He is definitely one to watch out in the future. Just imagine the combination of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah!
Naseem made his international debut in 2019 as a 16 year old boy. This made him the ninth youngest player to make a Test debut. He played 13 Tests and 3 ODIs, this was his maiden T20I match.
Naseem is also the youngest bowler to take a hat-trick in Test match cricket (vs Bangladesh). He clearly showed why he’s being talked about as a player.
In the post-match presentation, Pakistan captain Babar Azam praised Naseem and said, “Our only game plan was to take the game as deep as possible. Naseem Shah bowled very well and took crucial wickets for the team…It was a big match for Naseem Shah but still, he did very well.”
