India rise to second spot in latest ODI rankings following series win, England maintain top spot

England’s tour of India came to a thrilling close with the third ODI going down to the wire. The hosts survived a scare after Sam Curran’s unbeaten knock of 95 almost got England over the line. With the ODI series win, India clean swept the tour after showing great character in both the previous series.
Despite a series win, India failed to dethrone England from the top spot in the ODI rankings. India rose to the second spot in the latest rankings owing to the series win but fell two points short of the table toppers. Same is the case in the shortest format. Despite winning the series 3-2, India finished only two points behind the Three Lions.

New Zealand, Australia and South Africa make up the top five in the ODI rankings. In the T20Is, it is Australia, Pakistan and South Africa who occupy the remaining three spots in the top five.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar gains big on comeback
Making a comeback to ODI cricket after over a year, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the series. The lanky speedster exhibited great control and accuracy as he finished as with six wickets with an economy well under 5. His great showing saw him storm into the top 20 in the bowler rankings.
The highest wicket-taker in the ODI series, Shardul Thakur also reaped rewards in the latest rankings. Thakur achieved his career-best ranking as he entered the top 100 to finish at 93.
Among batsmen, Rohit Sharma slipped a place to finish third while Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul gained in the ODI rankings. Dhawan rose to 15 while Rahul rose to 31. Virat Kohli strengthened his grasp at the top spot as he finished as the highest run getter for his side in the series.
