India to rest key players ahead of IPL 2021 – Reports

As the world continues to fight the ongoing pandemic, cricket is gradually evolving to embrace the new normal. And a big part of the post-pandemic scenario is the bio-bubble. While it ensures the safety of the players, it comes with a huge price, mental health. Bubble fatigue has become the talk of the town lately. And India is gearing up to battle it by resting the big guns ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

With the IPL schedule yet to be declared, the team management has sprung into action. And rested eight players who have been traveling in the bio bubble since the last season of the IPL. Barring Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar, BCCI has made sure that other players get ample rest ahead of the cash-rich league. With the T20 World Cup around the corner, the importance of IPL  has increased by folds this season.

Rohit Sharma likely to miss ODI series

As per Indian Express, the players were given the option to rest before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the T20I series. The workload management also meant that India rested Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj from the T20Is. Reports suggest that India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma is in line to be rested for the ODI series against England. Sundar and Pant might also be rested along with Rohit.

The three-match ODI series will take place in Pune from March 23. With India likely to play in the final of the World Test Championship in June, workload management becomes even more important. The T20 World Cup is also scheduled later in the year. And hosts, India would lie to get their hands on the trophy for the first time in over a decade.
