India Tour of Australia: ‘He’s got the potential to lead India,’ Alex Carey praises leadership skills of Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer impressed all with his captaincy skills during his stint at Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. He led DC to their first finals in 13 years of the tournament. Iyer couldn’t clinch the title for his side but won hearts as the skipper of the Delhi-based franchise.
Iyer is currently training with the Indian team in Sydney ahead of India’s upcoming tour of Australia. Meanwhile, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman and his DC teammate Alex Carey also hailed the leadership skills of the 25-year old.
“No doubt he’s got the potential to lead India one day. I think Shreyas is going to be a fantastic leader moving forward,” Alex Carey answered to a Hindustan Times question during a media interaction on Tuesday.

“His ability to connect with all the players in the group was fantastic. He took the focus off himself and worried more about the group. He’s been successful for the last couple of seasons for Delhi,” Carey added.
His positive attitude worked well for us: Carey
Alex Carey made his IPL debut this year under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer only. The Aussie said that Iyer’s ability to connect with the players is his greatest strength.
“He’s still young and learning his crafts. He’s a fantastic batsman and a great person as well. To connect with every player in a big squad like Delhi is quite a tiring task but he was excellent in managing that. His positive attitude towards the game and his partnership with Ricky really worked well for us. The future is very bright for him,” he added.
