India tour of Australia: ‘There has been no information or clarity’ – Virat Kohli speaks on Rohit Sharma’s injury
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Indian ace batsman Rohit Sharma’s injury saga ahead of India’s tour of Australia has been grabbing one headline after another and for the first time, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has addressed the same saying there has been no ‘clarity’ or ‘information’ about his injury and exclusion from the squads.
Rohit Sharma was initially not announced in any of the squads for the Australia tour and it was speculated that it was due to an injury he suffered in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Indian limited-overs vice-captain recovered from the injury to play for his IPL side Mumbai Indians (MI) and lead them to the title.
Later, following news of skipper Virat Kohli being set to leave the tour midway on ‘paternity leave’, Rohit was announced in the Test squads alone. But as late as two days ago, reports emerged again that Rohit could not recover from the injury and hence will miss the first two Tests and probably the entire series.
‘We’ve been playing the waiting game’ – Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli addressed the press today at Sydney ahead of the first ODI and spoke about Rohit Sharma’s injury. He made it clear that Rohit was said to be not available for selection earlier this month. “Before the selection meeting, we got a mail that he is unavailable, that he has picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him and he understood and he was unavailable,” Kohli said.
Kohli then stated that no information was given to him or the team with regard to Rohit’s situation. “After that he played in the IPL and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia and we had no information on why he is not travelling with us. There has been no information, there has been lack of clarity. We have been playing the waiting game,” he added.
