For the first time since the pandemic, crowd was allowed in a cricket match in India for the second Test. The Chepauk stadium was filled 50% as India plotted a comeback into the series. And the impact could be seen on the field as the hosts were full of energy throughout the day. Fans were seen chanting the names of the players as India dominated the opening with the bat.
On the second day, the hosts have been spot on with the ball and the crowd is loving it. During the 28th over of the English innings, captain Virat Kohli was seen urging the fans to keep cheers coming. And the crowd responded with enthusiasm as they roared in the support of the home side. Sharing a video of the incident, BCCI wrote, “When in Chennai, you #WhistlePodu! #TeamIndia skipper @imVkohli egging the Chepauk crowd on & they do not disappoint.”

On a typical Chennai track, the hosts have taken the driver’s seat in the ongoing second Test. Having posted a big total batting fast, the Indian spinners have done the job with the ball. On his home ground, Ravichandran Ashwin has scalped four wickets while debutant Axar Patel has two to his name.
Unable to counter India’s web of spin, England are in huge trouble. Barring Ben Foakes, no other batsman has played more than 60 balls as the visitors folded for 134. Ashwin snapped the final wicket to take his second five-wicket haul in as many games as India take home a lead of 195. With more than three days of play in hand, the stage is set for the hosts to level the series.
