Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has been in top form for India during the course of the Test series against Australia. His consistent displays in the two matches that have taken place so far have helped a great deal in bowling out the opposition quickly. His battles with batting ace Steve Smith has especially been key in his success so far. The offie has got Smith out twice so far in the series for single digit scores.

In the second Test, Ashwin ended with five wickets including the key dismissals of Smith in the first innings and the settled Marnus Labuschagne in the second. The spinner will now look to continue in the same manner in the third and fourth Tests in order to help in securing a second consecutive series win in Australia.

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha spoke to Sports Today about Ravichandran Ashwin’s performances in the series. “Ashwin knows exactly what he wants to do. He’s not a rookie anymore. He has been to Australia and now he doesn’t have to play for his spot. That’s the most important thing for a player. Once you don’t have the fear of getting dropped from the team over poor performance, then your body language changes,” he said.

“You have a little bit of cushion to do certain things. That’s what is making a lot of difference for Ashwin and with the role, he is playing now. On the field, he is the bowling captain,” Ojha added. The third Test between India and Australia will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the 7th of January.
