Australian Claire Polosak became the first woman to adjudge a men’s test match. On Thursday, she appeared as the fourth umpire in the third Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney.
She was the first woman to officiate onfield in a men’s one-day international when Namibia hosted Oman at Windhoek in April 2019.
The 32-year-old female umpire was the first woman umpire to stand in an Australian men’s domestic fixture after officiating a one-day match between New South Wales and a Cricket Australia XI in 2017.
In January 2017, she was one of the four female umpires named by the ICC to stand in matches in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. She has officiated in 33 WT20Is, 17 WODIs, and one ODI match.
Having officiated in the current men’s Test match, her role as a fourth umpire pertains to pitch preparation, equipment changes, and support for the on-field umpires.
