Hardik Pandya led India to victory in the 2nd T20 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground with an exhibition of power-hitting. Coming in to bat when India were 3 down and in a spot of bother chasing a big target, Pandya got his eye in and then showcased his pyrotechnics with some clean striking.

Pandya has been in good touch throughout the tour of Australia having come up with crucial contributions in two matches. In the other games as well, Pandya looked promising before losing his wicket. Despite the fact that Pandya, an all-rounder, got to bowl only 4 overs throughout the tour, in just one game, he has proved that he can be more than capable playing as a pure batsman. Today’s innings against Australia was testament to the same.

‘Pandya is a proper finisher’ – Harbhajan Singh

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh spoke to India Today today about Hardik Pandya and his evolution as a finisher. “Confidence is building every day. He [Pandya] is someone who is a proper finisher for Team India. He is as good as Andre Russell, maybe better than, I would say. He is hitting sixes at will,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying.

“He [Pandya] always had the talent. We knew he could hit big sixes. But now he has been playing consistently, he has got the idea of staying there and finishing the game,” he added.

Harbhajan also added that Pandya was a sensible player who has got technique. “At the same time, he has got the technique as well. He is someone who can take singles as well. He is not someone who just likes to hit sixes. He is a very, very mature batsman, he has got a good technique. It’s good to see him taking up the responsibility and finishing off the game like he did today,” Harbhajan said.

“He is a very attacking player but very sensible. He knows which bowler to choose to go after. It’s good to see him showing that maturity. His batting is as good as any batsman. If he can bowl a couple of overs, it will be the icing on the cake,” Harbhajan signed off.
