Virat Kohli broke yet another record with his batting in the limited-overs matches. The Indian skipper surpassed batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest batsman to score 12,000 One Day International runs on Wednesday. Kohli reached this milestone during the third ODI match against Australia at the Manuka Oval, Canberra.

Kohli had 11,977 50-over cricket runs to his name before coming to bat in this game. He reached this iconic mark on the first ball of the 12th over off Australian pacer Sean Abbott. The 32-year old took a single on that delivery while batting in his 242nd innings in this format.

The current India captain also holds the record for the fastest batsman to score 10,000 and 11,000 runs (in terms of innings) in ODIs. India’s second-highest leading run-scorer in ODIs, Virat Kohli Kohli is behind Tendulkar’s 18,426 from 463 ODIs.

  • Virat Kohli (242 innings)
  • Sachin Tendulkar (300 innings)
  • Ricky Ponting (314 innings)
  • Kumar Sangakkara (336 innings)
  • Sanath Jayasuriya (379 innings)

60th ODI half-century for Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was looking in brilliant touch as got to his 60th One Day International half-century. He got out after scoring 63 runs in 78 deliveries. Aussie speedster Josh Hazlewood once again got him out while wicket-keeper Alex Carey completed the catch.

With this, Virat Kohli’s wait for his 44th ODI century continues as his last 50-over 100 came back in August 2019 against the Windies. Moreover, this also marks the first time since his debut year (2008), Virat Kohli failed to score even a single 100 in a calendar year for team India.
