India vs England 2021: England name 16-man squad for 5 T20Is against India

England named their 16-member squad for the 5 T20Is against England which is set to take place in Ahmedabad after the Test matches get over. England have begun the tour of India in exemplary fashion as they clinched the first Test with a mammoth 227-run win. They were better than their Indian counterparts on all accounts as they were led to perfection from the front by Joe Root.

For the T20Is however, Joe Root won’t be a part of the squad as he isn’t considered to be an integral part of the scheme of things in the shortest format of the game. The captain will hence, be the World Cup-winning Eoin Morgan.

For the Indian series, England are back to their full-strength side as there has been no surprise exclusion like was the case with the Tests.

National selector Ed Smith while announcing the squad was asked about Joe Root’s exclusion and he said, “Joe has an incredibly busy year coming up. It’s also the case that England have won seven out of eight T20 series, with the eighth being a draw. That coincided in 2018 with moving towards a very aggressive batting order.”

“He knows he has a lot of demands on his energy and his resources in Test cricket, where he is the leader and central to our success. He knows if he he doesn’t play in that T20 World Cup, and no decision has been made because he might come back in, it shows how strong a position English cricket is in. That’s pretty much exactly what Joe has said and I can’t improve on that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone has returned to the England T20I team that already looks quite strong with the likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy.

The full squad: Squad: Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.
